SPEAK BLESSING NOT CURSING (CONTINUED)

“Like a sparrow in its traveling, like a swallow in its flying, so bad words said against someone without reason do not come to rest.” (Proverbs 26:2) The New Life Version of this scripture describes a curse as “bad words said against someone.” This definition shows that our words are extremely important, whether good or bad. We can speak blessings or curses upon another.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21). Or in other words, “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose” (MSG). God gave the Israelites a mandate, found in Deuteronomy 30:19, to reject the curse. This same choice faces you and me today. Notice, the choice you make even affects your family.

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

A Prayer for You

Dear God, thank you for reminding me how my words impact my life and the lives of others. I choose life and not death, blessing and not cursing. Holy Spirit, guard my mouth that I may speak only words of blessing in every situation and toward all people. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
